Telephone Scams
Another recent scam involved the telephone. A consumer received a phone call from a person who claimed to be calling from VISA.
In this scam, the consumer is informed that due to a computer glitch, their account number has "accidentally" been dropped from the system. The consumer is given an 800 number to call and verify their VISA account number with a company called Merchant Verification Services, and promised that their telephone service account will be credited for doing so.
Do not respond to these sorts of requests. The callers may appear very professional, but always call your credit card company direct before following any other these types of instructions.
