November Communique - Don't Be a Victim!

Protect yourself from being a victime of plastic card fraud with these simple educational tools:

  • Beware of "shoulder surfers". These are people who hang around or near you and "surf" to get your information without your knowledge.
  • Always protect your PIN (personal identification number). Do not keep your PIN anywhere near your card or in your wallet.
  • Don't re-enter your PIN if the ATM "eats" your card. It could mean an ATM scam!
  • Use well-lighted, well-traveled ATM locations.
  • Never count cash until you are in a safe location. Wait until you are back in your car or office.
  • Be wary of offers to "help" with your ATM transaction. Make sure you know who is helping you.
  • Pay close attention to the ATM and your surroundings. Be sure the machine has not been tampered with or manipulated.
  • Don't use machines that you are not familiar with. Thieves buy used ATMs and install them in remote locations.
  • Review your account regularly with Virtual Branch or your monthly statement. Report any fraudulent activity to the credit union immediately.
